Each year at the end of January/ Mid-February, Johannesburg is under the spell of the International Mozart Festival. It was founded in 2009 and has rapidly become one of the most important music festivals in South Africa. The festival is a combination of classical music concerts of high international standard and contributes to vital educational initiatives as well as community engagement projects in support of children, students and audiences of all corners of society.

The classic music festival involves orchestral, solo and chamber music performances, as well as silent movie screenings and talks.
In spite of the name, not only Mozart is on the programme, you can also expect to hear works from Strauss, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Tchaikovsky among others as well as contemporary performances by local composers.
